Closing Time

I couldn’t have asked for a better last week in Ireland. Between Kilkenny to Killarney with the girls, to our last night out- unreal. The last night out on the town, we bar crawled throughout Cork with all of our friends. The last night we spent together, we stayed together until the very end, talking and reminiscing about all the crazy, wonderful things we’ve done and experienced here. I love these people so much, I don’t know how I’m supposed to just adjust back to home life without them.

I know these girls will be friends forever. We’ve experienced something that no one else understands or can relate to. We’ve changed as people, grown and seen ourselves as young adults.

I’ve made a lot of changes in my life while being in Ireland. I am a new person, and I hope I  can adjust well coming home today. It’s so bittersweet. Sure I miss my friends and family at home, but I’ve made a new home, and a new family. I’m more confident than ever that this was the right thing for me to do. I’ve received so many signs while being abroad, that have lead me to the conclusion that I was supposed to be here. And God didn’t want it any other way.

I’m going to continue to use this blog as a travel blog/anything Ireland related that comes me way. But I want to leave you with this, the lyrics to my favorite classic Irish tune ‘Galway Girl’

Well, I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what’s a fella to do
‘Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I’d be takin’ a whirl
‘Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl

We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you, friend, what’s a fella to do
‘Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
And I lost my heart to a Galway girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
I’ve traveled around I’ve been all over this world
Boys I ain’t never seen nothin’ like a Galway girl

That Awkward Moment in Belfast…

I’m currently in Belfast! All by myself! Again, another confidence booster, in growing into myself. But I feel really awkward while being here…

See “Northern Ireland” is actually apart of the UK. “Southern Ireland” or The Republic of Ireland is its own country. I feel segregation, like being in the 60’s or 70’s, but this time it isn’t racism, it’s catholics vs. protestants. Even light posts in some smaller towns, show read, white and blue, or green, white and orange to tell you the towns beliefs while driving by.  While being on a tour bus today, the tour guide pointed out a school, one of the first to “mix”, turns out its working well too, who would’ve thought? *sarcasm*

I feel like I’m in England, not Ireland. It’s this really weird elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about.
